LA NOSTRA PROPOSTA ALLA REGIONE LOMBARDIA: INDENNITA' DI MATERNITA' UNIVERSALE

Having a child today is a privilege?
In Italy, it seems so. Over the past 50 years has built up a large maternity protection, which includes the guarantee of the maintenance work, the coverage of 5 months at the birth, parental benefits, pension coverage in pregnant women.
But the ISTAT figures tell us that 55% of the female workforce under thirty do not access to maternity with the protections provided by law so that all belong to these guarantees for employees, while the number of women who do not have a permanent contract is constantly growing.
Why do children stop being a privilege for most families, we propose a 'universal maternity allowance : an amount (with relevant social security contribution) to be paid for five months for all mothers, regardless whether they are dependent or independent, whether stable or unstable, they are working or not working yet.
On 28 June the group met Maternity & Paternity in Milan with representatives of working life and movement. Participated in and accepted the proposal: Nerina Benuzzi (CGIL), Andrea Fumagalli (Intelligence Precaria), Gianna Martinengo (Women Entrepreneurs Committee), Chiara Martucci (Sconvegno), Claudio Negro (UIL).

Maternity & Paternity The group consists of: Marina Square, Anna M. Ponzellini, Anna Soru, Sabina Cheek, Mary Welcome, Catherine Duzzi, Stefano Olivieri.
